Updated Support Plan

We have begun a new support policy that should make it easier to understand exactly what is covered and what may end up costing extra. You will receive free tech support for the first three issues in your contract year, and then it is $50 per incident after that.

Issue resolutions that take longer than one hour will be billed at a rate of $75-100 per hour, depending on complexity and staff involvement.

If it is a simple question, like having trouble accessing your email or resetting your password, there still will be no charge. But if we have to shut down your site because you performed an upgrade or an add-in that caused a problem, that will count as one of your three. If we investigate a problem and we caused it, it is still on us.

Site transitions, software upgrades, design or other tasks are considered to be development tasks and are quoted individually. Please contact us with your needs - we are happy to help.

And, of course, you can call us anytime for free advice.

What is the difference between IMAP and POP3 email?

The POP3 and IMAP protocols offer 2 methods of accessing the same information. You can use either or both protocols with no ill effect. Your device settings do not change our server configurations. Here are the fundamental differences in the protocols:

IMAP does not store email on the local device. This means that your email archive is the mail server itself. The consequence of this is that over time you will use a very large space storing all your old email. Also, deleting an item via IMAP will delete the item from the server forever. You need to be careful not to delete items via IMAP prematurely.

POP3 retrieves mail from the server and stores it locally. You can set your POP3 device to keep mail on the server for a specific length of time before deleting it from the server. Because mail storage is a separate function from mail deletion, the server only needs to store items for a brief time and server mailboxes can be smaller. The consequence is that messages deleted via POP3 will not be available to other devices which may access the same account. The solution is to set deletion time more than 1 day from the time a message is read. That will leave a copy on the server for a Blackberry device or any other device.

I'm using DreamWeaver and Contribute but can't get my files checked in?

How to troubleshoot Dreamweaver and Contribute. The DreamWeaver/Contribute suite uses a versioning scheme that stores a ".LCK" file on the server whenever a file is checked out. The file can be seen with any ftp client or from File Manger in CPanel. It will have the same name as the locked file plus .lck (i.e. index.html.LCK). Simply delete the file and it will be accessible to all users working on the site.

Do you have a simple page counter?

I didn't see a simple counter in the facilities available on the cpanel. Am I missing it? Suggestions?

Absolutely! Why use a simple counter when you have a killer stats package? In your user control panel (cpanel) there is a link for web/ftp stats. The first application AWStats is wonderful and very user friendly. It will not only give you hit and page counts, but also unique visitors by IP, user IP addresses, website referrals and much more information that you can really use to maximize your website.
